2026 In's & Out's | babblings report #009 JANUARY 2026: de-influencing you, movie club, & more!

Happy January babblers! I hope everyone had a great holiday season, and if you didn’t that’s okay, fuck everyone else we’re about to embark on the best chapter yet 🙂 As a reminder if you’re in the northern, western hemisphere technically the new year doesn’t begin till the spring equinox. So we have quite some time to get back to our routines and start getting creative about what we want to unfold in the real new year. As always let me know your thoughts in the comments.

~ 2026 In’s & Out’s ~
Something I do like that people do for new years is an In’s and Out’s list. Instead of resolutions we’re looking more at the vibes and what vibes we know for sure we don’t want to give off. Even though the calendar is made up, that doesn’t make it not useful as a tool to track and divide up time. So here is babblings’ offical 2026 IN’S & OUT’s LIST:

🌛 Movie of the Month 🌛
I had originally decided on a different movie for January, but I fell down a Criterion Collection Picks rabbit hole and had the bright idea to mix together Guillermo del Toro’s pick “The Red Shoes” and Vince Staples pick “Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling” two very different movies but at the heart are following the artist’s life. Which I thought went well since January combines Capricorn’s dedication and discipline energy with Aquarius’ eccentricity and rebellious nature. To me this defines the true artists life. So I thought for January lets explore movies that comment on the drive and tenacity it takes to go against the odds and chase down your dream. I’m excited to rewatch The Red Shoes, I watched it as a kid and haven’t revisited. I only really remember how visually stunning it is. And then I’ve never watch Jo Jo Dancer, the first 20 minutes had me intrigued it’s funny, raunchy, and has a fervor dreamlike quality that I think also really matches well with The Red Shoes. Both are available for free with ads on youtube! I’ll be putting my thoughts in the comments after I watch, let me know yours too! 🙂

👾 De-Influencing You 👾
I started a new series on my tiktok called “De-Influencing You” where I’ll be going through trends I see online and in general in culture and talking about how to step away from the edge of over-consumerism and how to engage with intention and realistically. This first video is about journal ecosystems! I was inspired by myself because I put out a similar blog post last year talking about my journal ecosystem and I was also inspired by the 100s of videos I’ve seen scrolling seeing people talk about their journal ecosystem or those that are just starting. I was alarmed by how much people are buying and it reminded me of the junk journaling phase where everyone bout tons of journaling supplies and I’m confident for most people it’s now just collecting dust on the shelf. I’m not swaying anyone away from taking part, especially in something as therapeutic as journalling. But we need to focus on the practice of journalling instead of the aesthetic, and learn how to be more resourceful as use what we already have!

*My Latest Project: DIY Leather Journal*
After using my former DIY’d journal cover it was time for an upgrade now that I proved to myself I would ACTUALLY use something like that. I was inspired from other creators to deconstruct and customize a leather journal from Barnes & Noble, so that’s what I did! The notebooks it comes with were sewn into the leather, so I cut those out, and used the holes from the thread to insert my pink cord instead. (This part was tricky because the holes were so small, but I made it happen with time, patience, and using random tools from around the house). I added my old charms and a new cross (I’m have a secular crosses moment for some reason). Put in my notebooks and she’s ready to go!! So happy with how it turned out:
