I actually outlined this episode about a year ago after watching documentary after documentary about children being exploited in the entertainment industry, in religious institutions, at school, and at home. The common denominator for why these things go on and continue is that children have no real autonomy. They’re passed around from adult to adult with the assumption that all adults have their best interests in mind. It still takes a village to raise a child, but what happens when we know longer live in tight knit communities trying to survive together, can you trust your village?

• 1 out of every 4 girls is sexually abused
• 1 out of every 6 boys is sexually abused
• 1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet.
• Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults) occur to children ages 17 and under.

• 85% of child abuse victims never report their abuse.
• Nearly 50% of all victims of forcible sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and forcible fondling are children under 12.

‼️ AID FOR ASHEVILLE ‼️

One of the places most impacted from Hurricane Helene was Asheville, NC and surrounding areas in the Appalachian Mountains. An area well above sea level and over 300 miles from the nearest coastline was completely destroyed due to the excessive rain before and during the hurricane causing mass flooding, land slides, and completely changing the topography of the land. A quick google search does not show what’s actually going on or make it easy to find ways to support those affected and rescue efforts. 👻 October Watchlist 👻

Now I am not a scary or horror movie person. I do like some suspense and creepiness, but as soon as there’s too much gore or paranormal shit (that could totally happen in real life) I’m out! But it’s that time of year where I love to turn my red mood lights on, fill up a big glass of pinot noir, and watch some spooky stuff (which I do in any season but is socially appropriate now). Here’s my watchlist for October to make sure I’m fully embracing the magic of the season. Keeping it to mostly witchy or magical movies, with some creepy stuff mixed in:

🔮Annual Double Feature: The Love Witch & Jennifer’s Body

My favorite genre of twisted thrillers are women being crazy and blood thirsty. Every October I plan a night to do a double feature with my two favorites The Love Witch and Jennifer’s Body. Start with The Love Witch for a fun, sexy, campy, and serial killer thriller. Then pop over to Jennifer’s Body for a bit more gore, more boys being killed, and the complexities of teenage girl friendships with sapphic undertones.

“Elaine (Samantha Robinson), a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, then picks up men and seduces them. However, her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she at last meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved drives her to the brink of insanity and murder.”

“When a demon takes possession of her, high-school hottie Jennifer (Megan Fox) turns a hungry eye on guys who never stood a chance with her before. While evil Jennifer satisfies her appetite for human flesh with the school’s male population, her nerdy friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), learns what’s happening and vows to put an end to the carnage.”

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) 🩸 Not Watched Yet

“Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula’s castle to finalize a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker’s fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.”

How I’ve never seen this gothic thriller is a mystery, but recently I came across images of the movie on Pinterest and was like “UMMMM, Hello?? What is this?” Classic Dracula story, with beautiful visuals, and the complexity of loving something bad for you… sign me up. Free on Tubi!

Crimson Peak (2015) 👻 Not Watched Yet

“After marrying the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe, young Edith (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself swept away to his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille, Thomas’ alluring sister and protector of her family’s dark secrets. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. As she comes closer to the truth, Edith may learn that true monsters are made of flesh and blood.”

I will not spoil the twists in this movie even though TikTok spoiled me (my fault I dug to far into clips of the movie). This may be a little scarier than I’d prefer but the cast is jam packed with incredible actors, I’m expecting to be horrified and mesmerized by some insane visuals.

🌙 Twitches (2005)

“Reunited on their 21st birthday, twin sisters (Tia Mowry, Tamera Mowry) use their magic powers to save their kingdom from the forces of darkness.”

I am OVERDUE for a rewatch of this classic Disney Channel Original Movie. One of my favorite movies from childhood, I watched Twitches over and over again praying for my special powers to appear on my 21st birthday (they did not 🙄) and sparked my love of celestial jewelry!
